Coolangatta Airport

Coolangatta Airport is officially known as Gold Coast Airport and is both domestic and international. It is owned by Queensland Airports Ltd. The airport resides about 100 km from Brisbane, in a southerly direction. Its entrance is located in Bilinga, a suburb. The runway occupies land in five suburbs in Queensland and New South Wales. In the 2010-2011 financial years, there were nearly 5.5 million revenue passengers in and out of the airport. Until 1999, Coolangatta Airport was the official name. In 1936, three grass strips comprised the total airport facility, which was intended for emergency landings for airmail planes. Passenger flights left the airport in 1939, with the original providers being Butler Air Transport and Queensland Airlines. In 1958, in order to accommodate jets, the runways were paved. The Eric Robinson Building, which serves as the passenger terminal, opened in 1981. In 1988, the airport was sold by the government with the ultimate purchaser being the present owner/operator. Queensland Airports Ltd. Also owns Mount Isa and Townsville Airports. There are two passenger lounges, with one being operated by Virgin Australia. Other airlines include Air New Zealand and Scoot, among others, including Qantas.

Take it at your own pace. You’ll never get wet and anyone (under 90 kilograms) and children over age five can join in. Even as a spectator, you’ll have fun.
