Singleton, New South Wales lays on the banks of the Hunter River northwest of Newcastle. As of the 2006 census, Singleton’s population was about 14,000 people. An unusual number of historic and elaborate mansions stand today, including the 1828 Neotsfield, 1829 Baroona…one of the most elaborate, Abbey Green built in 1865, and Minimbah, from 1877. Despite the fact that Singleton has been subjected to devastating flooding, the townspeople have always chosen to remain in the town’s present location.
