The Magnificent Three Sisters

Posted by Jeremy Storer on October 30, 2010

The Three Sisters are a large rock formation found in the Blue Mountains and are one of the most famous sites in the area and are above the Jamison Valley. The nearest town is Katoomba. The Three sisters are named Meehni, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo.

Erosion of the soft sandstone which is what The Three Sisters consist of from the wind and rain is how this magnificent spectacle was formed and over time this spectacle will erode until it is no longer.

The legend behind the three sisters is they fell in love with three men but marriage was forbidden and battle broke out. The sisters were turned to stone to protect them but the person who turned them to stone was killed and no one could turn them back. So they are still there today.

Grab a cheap car rental New South Wales and drive down to the three sisters and check them out why they are still there. For some Blue Mountains accommodation visit bluemountainsaccommodation.biz.
