Go for a drive to Stawell, a picturesque town with a view of the Grampians; population of 6,500. Stawell is the home of the world renowned Stawell Gift amateur foot race. The race is held at Easter each year at Central Park in the heart of Stawell. The Easter weekend brings abundances of people with events all weekend including the Great Western Rodeo, Horse racing as well as the main event. Other attractions include the Stawell gold mine which continues to run 24 hours a day 365 days per year. Stawell has a long history of gold mining dating back to the Victorian gold rushes in the mid-19th century. In March 2010 it produced its two millionth ounce on the property. On your way to the mine make sure you stop at the top of Big Hill to have a look at the view overlooking the whole town of Stawell and beyond to the great expanse of the Grampians.
